And So It Begins... Canada vs the United States and I'm Not Talking Hockey

I was raised "old school", meaning that there are three topics not for public consumption; money, religion and politics. Today, I have to toss the latter. I simply can't help it. The reason for the beehive in my bonnet? John Rustad, leader of British Columbia's Progressive Conservative Party. I use the term"leader" loosely.
Rustad remarked that we should avoid the proposed 25% tariff and a trade war by "giving Donald Trump what he wants." This is as repugnant a statement I've ever heard-the suggestion that Canadians kowtow to a convicted felon, sexual predator, bully and perpetual liar.
Yes, I'm aware of economics. I'm aware of the risks. I'm also aware that we, as Canadians, have every resource needed for self-sufficiency - if managed properly and with foresight. I know what it will do to my purchasing power. I'm a pensioner with little Canada Pension Plan because I've spent the last fifteen years on Canada Pension Plan Disability payments. I have no work pension. But, I'm also aware that we are strong and resilient. We face adversity with quiet courage and dignity. At least, we used to. And I believe there are millions who still do.
But, to tell the truth, I don't understand this new world- the one that evolved through Covid. And I have to admit that, for the first time, I feel old. I learned much through the pandemic. What I learned hurts and saddens me. I thought we-Canadians- were better than that.
I've written to Eby and to Rustad. I've told them both that I'm Canadian and fully expect my government to do whatever it takes to ensure I remain that way.
