How Come I Never Knew?

This morning, a photo caught my eye. Why I don't know. It's been around forever, sitting on the shelf on my husband's side of the bed, amongst the stuff on his desk, or the counter in our bedroom. I know what it's of, who's in it - me, my husband, the two kids. It just never seemed...necessary...important to look. But today, it did. I'd forgotten his moustache and his hair the same style as now. My son's dimples, my daughter's crooked grin.

That woman...me... stands on the right, hands resting on her son's shoulders. Tall, straight, and so young. Her face unmarred by time and years and too much care. And I realize...this woman...she's beautiful.
